Time for more action on Climate Change

After a global climate change summit where 16 year old Greta Thunberg points out how governments across the world need to do more, action must be taken now. We need to look at what we can do personally, across our district, nationally and globally.

Martin Wrigley has been working to tackle single use plastic in our communities, and with Cllr Jackie Hook, sponsored the Teignbridge declaration of a climate emergency. Teignbridge are building a plan to increase renewable energy generation, reduce energy usage and to plant 1000 trees a year.

And we need to do more nationally. However, from this autumn the UK government is increasing the VAT on solar power systems, and reducing the schemes that have so boosted the renewable sector. Our current MP has a history of voting against climate change action.

Martin Wrigley says: "We have to invest in green technology and encourage new solutions to de-carbonise our industry, travel and power generation - making Britain once again a world-leader in renewable energy.

"Our planet is at breaking point. We don't have the luxury of waiting another decade for politicians in our country to act."
